Improve the recognition of foreign credentials in BC

For many Filipinos, and other immigrants to Canada, the recognition of their foreign credentials can be a confusing, difficult and expensive process.  And the inability to have their foreign education, experience and other qualifications recognized becomes a barrier to their entry in their respective professions.  This results in an economic and emotional toll on the immigrant and their families which can be felt over decades and span generations.  This systematic exclusion of immigrants in certain professions is unacceptable and more needs to be done to address it so they are able to contribute fully to our society.

Beyond Representation is committed to supporting campaigns and other initiatives that seek to address this serious problem.  For example internationally-educated nurses (IENs) and their advocates are trying to make the process for them to become registered in BC easier.  Currently IENS say the process to have their foreign credentials recognized is a long, expensive and arduous process that can take many months or even years.  Considering the urgent need for nurses in our healthcare system, it is in best interest of our province to facilitate their entry into this profession.
